See who someone follows (and unfollows) on Instagram
Updated: 25 July 2026
Short answer: on a public account, you can open their profile and read the "following" list any time. What Instagram won't show you is what changed: who they just followed, who they quietly unfollowed. For that you need a tracker that keeps history, like Snytch: add their @ and every move gets logged and pushed to you.
The manual way, and where it breaks
Open their profile → Following. On big accounts the list is long, unordered, and paginated: spotting one new name is a needle-in-a-haystack game, and an unfollow is literally invisible (you'd have to memorize the whole list). Instagram also shows no timestamps, you can't tell if a follow happened today or two years ago.
The automatic way
Snytch snapshots the account's following and follower lists, then compares continuously. Every new follow, every unfollow, every gained or lost follower shows up in a feed with the time it was detected, and pings your phone. It reads only what's publicly visible, so the person never knows and you never log in.
Is it okay to track someone's Instagram?
Snytch only processes information that anyone can already see on a public profile, it automates the refresh button, nothing more. The tracked person is never notified. That said, use it like an adult: checking whether your ex followed someone new is one thing, harassment is another, and our terms prohibit using Snytch to harass, stalk or harm anyone.
FAQ
Can I see who someone recently followed on Instagram?
Instagram's own list has no timestamps or order you can rely on. A tracker like Snytch detects each new follow within hours of it happening and tells you exactly when it was spotted.
Will they know I'm watching their account?
No. Snytch reads public data only, no follow, no view, no notification on their side, ever.
Does it work if their account is private?
No: a private account's lists aren't publicly visible. You can arm the watch so tracking starts automatically as soon as we see the account turn public, we check several times a day.
Can I watch an account together with friends?
Yes: that's Snytch squads. Everyone in the squad sees the same catches in a shared feed and can react and comment live.
